The first method for distributing nett fares was in the way of a printed fare manual, a lengthy bi-annual publication that was problematic in updating, and ensuring wide distribution. The increasing consolidation of thousands of fares led Concorde to develop its first electronic distribution system via the major computer reservation systems. This file storage method, called flat files, enabled Concorde to publish fares regularly and had the capacity to enable all travel agents throughout Australia to easily access non-published fare information.
Concorde introduced SmartFares® in 1997, the first fares database in Australia with advanced search capabilities, Concorde's goal was finally achieved. Accurate fare information that was searchable, easy to retrieve, and accessible via a number of channels quickly became widely used and the industry standard for fare publishing.
SmartFares® opened access to fares via the Internet, which enabled travel agents to work in a new way; delivering fares to their customers at any location, any time of the day. SmartFares® also provided travel agents with the opportunity to include customers in the fare selection process with the user friendly interface of the SmartFares® screen.
In April 2003 Concorde SmartFares® evolved from just an airfares database with the unveiling of SmartHotels, a global accommodation booking service available via the Internet to the nation's 4000-plus travel agencies. This enables agents to use Concorde not just as the gateway for the largest range of air fares but also to access accommodation around the world.
SmartFares® is the award winning fares distribution technology of Air Tickets.
